It all started many years ago with Norwegian salmon. Kjell Skauland imported that to Luxembourg but didn’t stop there… and today has been running “Scanshop” for over 20 years. The name says it all: a shop with products from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland.
When we visited, the Danish national flag Dannebrog was fluttering in front of the shop. The lunch snack in the small restaurant was therefore an original Dansk hotdog and a Rugbrød (dark rye bread) with salty meat. Bread and many other specialities from Denmark can be bought, and from Sweden there is an assortment of everything from large sliced crisp bread to jams, blueberry juice (from Ekström) and the well-known Västerbotten cheese. You can also discover the culinary arts of Finland, the Reissumies (bread) and reindeer sausage.
From Norway you’ll find classic smoked salmon (only available frozen in summer), along with Geitost (cheese) and the famous aquavit. The chocolate from Reykjavik and the dried Icelandic fish have both travelled a long way – but well worth it.
The non-food section of the shop is worth visiting too: designer products from Denmark and Finland (Menu, Georg Jensen, Marimekko…) including sauna accessories. During November and December, there is also an impressive Nordic Christmas market! A truly Scandinavian feeling whatever the time of year! You will want to get home and pack your bags straight away….
