“Gran Ducale“ is one of the ice cream specialities from “Bonomeria“. The name is not a coincidence, as Andrea Bonomi comes from Parma, a region that used to be a Grand-Duchy before Italy became a republic. Luxembourg is still a Grand-Duchy, and it is here that Andrea sells her homemade frozen treasures.
Bonomeria follows Italian tradition and has become a popular meeting place in the beautiful Belair quartier of Luxembourg town. If the weather is nice, the grass-green chairs on the small terrace fill up quickly, And on these days, Andrea makes the “Gran Ducale“, a half frozen (“semi-freddo”) delight of Mascarpone, fresh cream and caramelized almonds. You should also try the “Concertino“, based on the ingredients of a very well-known ice cream of the 80’s: milk based ice cream, sour cherries and caramelized chocolate almonds.
Of course you can also get many Gelateria classics in Bonomeria – including many kinds of sorbet. Andrea is a total fan of fruit, adapting her ingredients to the fruits of the season. Currently peach, melon and strawberries are top of the list. All the fruits are perfect for her famous milkshakes. Besides iced specialities, you can also get different desserts and half frozen cakes; a highlight for your Sunday menu at home. And if you just want to have an espresso: here you will be served a delicious Illy coffee.
