Commerce in Luxembourg: A journey down memory lane

by Good Idea | Comment

Today’s world of retail and commerce wields such fascination now, more than ever, that most people end up surrendering themselves to it. Drawing on Luxembourg as an example, the “Shop, Shop, Shop” exhibition held at the Luxembourg City Museum of History from May 17th until March 30th 2014 , explores how the city gradually developed into a thriving retail place and even a shopping haven.

The exhibition further unravels how the retail industry developed over the years, highlighting the creation of the popular ‘Braderie’, still popular today as well as explores new forms of sales points like self-service shops and supermarkets, vast shopping centers and e-commerce.

The exhibition features antique display cabinets, counters, cash registers, packaging, hat boxes, bags, advertising posters and window mannequins as well as historical toy shops, all of which recall the “good old times” and are bound to trigger nostalgic memories.
