Luxembourg switches on its “Winterlights“! An atmospheric sea of lights and the Christmas markets on the Place d’Armes, the Place de la Constitution and the Place de Paris, invite you to linger in the capital. Each of the 3 markets has its own charm: one in front of a historical backdrop, one with a fantastic panoramic view over the Pétrusse valley, and one as an ideal departure point for gift shopping in either of the shopping quarters: uptown or the railway quarter.
Around the Golden Lady or “Gëlle Fra“, you will find specialities from this year’s host region: Tuscany in Italy. On the other hand, the market on the Place d’Armes in front of Cercle Cité has been completely redesigned, with exhibitors calling it ‘the most beautiful market to date’. Just a stone’s throw away, Place Guillaume II, has transformed itself into a partially covered ice rink alongside a beautiful Christmas tree.
Many events have been organized all over the city to give some added sparkle to the “Winterlights“. Some highlights not to be missed are: Saint Nicholas parade (29th November), Luxembourg Advent Circus (until 13th of December) and the “Light Night“, on the 18th and 19th of December when Luxembourg celebrates the end of its European Presidency.
The inner-city bus network will be free on Saturdays and Sundays to allow easy commuting between the various Christmas markets and events. And remember, shuttle buses to and from the surrounding P&R parkings will guarantee you a stress free journey. What’s more, shops in Luxembourg-city will be open in the afternoon on all 4 Advent Sundays.
