If you are out and about with children, then the Merl Park is an absolute paradise. It is very close to the city-centre and has a wonderful playground. You can have a relaxed picnic in the shade of the trees, or close to the pond, without loosing sight of your little ones. Your ice-cream treat for dessert can be found in the centrally located bar-restaurant “Le Pavillon”. You’ll be rubbing shoulders with great culture if you choose to picnic in the gardens of Villa Vauban (open every day except Tuesdays). It’s the perfect opportunity to combine a picnic with a visit of the museum’s current exhibition. Another picnic hotspot near town is the park around the National Sporting and Cultural Centre in Kirchberg, better known as d’Coque. It even has boule courts that you can use for free. Close-by is “Kyosk” where you can buy ready-made meals, drinks, snacks as well as sweets (opening times are weather dependent, details can be found at www.kyosk.lu)
Further north ….1 km west of Esch-sur-Sûre lies the Upper-Sûre lake where you can picnic and grill . There are many areas to choose from where you can try some fishing, sailing or diving.
